December 2011

This year I took 6 months off my PhD to lead the Met Office 'Weather Game' project.

Funded by Industrial Mathematics and with Professor David Spiegelhalter (Cambridge University) as the academic partner, the project involved researching the optimum methods of disseminating probabilistic weather forecasts to the public, in particular focussing on how the complexity of probabilistic information provided can affect decision making and (mis)understanding.

Results of this work will be published in 2012.

This work ties in with the interdisciplinary research goals of the Cabot Institute at the University of Bristol.
