At Lowtex Microbio we focus on determining the abundance, diversity and metabolic activity of microbes in various low-temperature environments.

This lab offers low temperature incubation systems for both environmental samples and cultures, an epifluorescence microscope with image analysis and a cryo stage and state-of-the-art molecular biology equipment, including PCR, qPCR, DGGE, gel documentation kit, incubators and a Radioisotope laboratory facility for measuring microbial activity using diverse radiotracers. We are also able to look at both aerobic and anerobic processes. We closely collaborate with the Transcriptomics lab, next door, in Biological Sciences, where we conduct projects on metagenomes and transcriptomes.
