This Q & A website is aimed at school kids. Experts provide answers to anything and everything about biology and palaeontology related inlcuding dinosaurs 2006
Science Alive is the University of Bristol's contribution to National Science Week, the aim of which is to introduce people to the science of their everyday lives. The event involved hands-on activities and interactive displays. I co-coordinated this science fair and designed the promotional material and displays. |

2005 @Bristol is a unique destination that brings science, nature and art to life. I was involved with a team of dinosaur experts who educated visitors about the Bristol Dinosaur (Thecodontosaurus). Children had the opportunity to explore fossils, participate in quiz game, learn about food chains and colour their own dinosaur. Many adults also praised the educational visit! Widening Participation is a program designed to encourage and support young people who have the ability, motivation and potential to thrive at university, but who come from groups that are currently under-represented in higher education. My colleagues and I participated in this program by hosting students at the University of Bristol. After a brief presentation, they spent their time sorting through microfossils and learning how to cast specimens. The Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA) provides in-shore rescue boat and land search services for the Severn Estuary and upper reaches of the River Severn. I participated in a fundraising event to help them raise money for a much-needed addition to their fleet. |

2004 I participating in many fundraising and foodraising activities throughout the year. I had many different roles, sometimes I was responsible for behind-the-scenes organization and sometimes I took a more active role in communicating with the public and media. I created a online and print material (website, brochures, posters, buttons, magnets and stamps) to increase public awareness for CWRS. Their mission is to rehabilitate injured, orphaned and lost animals in the Calgary area. Help Jessie was a fundraising effort to help a young woman with Cystic Fibrosis. The aim was to raise enough funds to purchase a medical aid. The goal of $22,000 was raised within a period of two months. My contribution to this project was creating and updating the website and facilitating media coverage. This website is no longer online as Jessie's goal was met. |

Some Past Volunteer Activities
I volunteered to assist with a national campaign to fundraise and promote awareness of breast cancer. I developed a website for the Valley Zoo Development Society, an arm of the Edmonton Valley Zoo that raises money for habitat development. This site has been instrumental in increasing awareness of the foundation and raising funds. I was a student representative for SANG during the last year of my undergraduate degree. I developed a short course for young girls interested in science in engineering. Students explored palaeontology by digging for their own dinosaur, recording the site layout, and then reconstructing their specimen. Further discussion focused on the specializations these animals had developed. I raised money for this local charity's campaign Christmas campaign on the University of Calgary campus. I visited local elementary schools to educate children about the subject of Palaeontology and career options in the field. I clarified many myths about the profession, answered their questions about the educational requirements they would need and discussed the many possible avenues one could explore (not just dinosaurs)! I volunteered twice a week at in the Intensive Care and Orthopedic Units. My tasks involved assisting medical personal with daily tasks as well as providing comfort to family and friends of seriously ill patients. Unfortunately, this hospital is now closed. |
