Dr Martin Homer
Senior Lecturer in Engineering Mathematics

I am a senior lecturer in the Bristol Centre for Applied Nonlinear Mathematics, part of the Department of Engineering Mathematics, at the University of Bristol.

I am principally interested in mathematical modelling of real-world systems, from engineering to the life sciences. I work in the general area of nonlinear dynamical systems, especially those that are nonsmooth. Some current research projects include

• Noise and vibration in gearboxes,
• Impact and friction in mechanical oscillators,
• Hearing mechanisms in mammals and insects,
• The mathematics of bipedal locomotion,
• Many dimensional dynamical systems; in particular impact wear in heat exchangers.
