Current Research Projects
In my postdoctoral position with Profesor Bruce Hood, I am exploring children's developing understanding of eye gaze. For example, when making judgments about friendships, are children sensitive to mutual gaze between individuals? Can they use gaze direction in dynamic scenes to determine the looker's preferences and fears? We are exploring these questions in typically developing children as well as in children with autism. I am also investigating children's understanding of symbolic meaning by exploring their understanding of drawing, to examine their flexibility in the use of graphic symbols. Additional Research InterestsWhile working with Professor Liz Robinson, I studied children's sensitivity to testimony. In particular, we examined under what conditions children will use a speaker's track record of giving good or bad information when deciding whether to believe that speaker in the future. Informed by what children consider when given information from another, we began to explore what they consider when deciding whether to ask a question. This research is ongoing.
